Have
you wondered what is expected of those who desire membership in the
local church? We have guides who are willing to come to your home
and discuss them at your convenience. Or you may choose to attend
one of the various classes offered on Sunday mornings on a rotation
basis. Occasional
one-day Open Door Seminars are also held.
There
are four basic requirements for membership at PVCC:
1) Accept God’s offer
of salvation. Romans 6:23. Your first step in accepting God’s gift
is to accept salvation as God’s free gift for all who believe in
Jesus Christ who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no
one comes to the Father but by me.” John 14:6. To believe in
Christ means you acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior and trust in His
saving blood. Ephesians
2:8,9; Mark 16:16
2) Repent of your sins. To repent means to change your mind
and decide you no longer want to live life doing your own thing, but
instead will follow God’s path.
Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38
3)
Verbally confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord. Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:9-10
4)
Be baptized into Christ. Matthew 28:19. To be baptized means to be
immersed in water as a believer. Acts 8:36-29. Baptism pictures
Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. It reminds us that when we
are saved, we die to our old selves in contact with Christ’s
death, are raised to live a new life with Christ and our sins are
washed away. Romans
6:3-7. Note: If you already have been immersed as a believer at
another church, you will not need to be baptized again.
All
new members are asked to attend a one-hour class called New Member
Orientation. All are also encouraged to attend the Basic series of
classes, which can be taken before or after a new member’s
decision.
To
grow in your Christian walk, the church encourages members to commit
weekly to a minimum of one hour of worship, one hour of Bible study
and one hour of volunteer service at the church in a recognized
ministry. If you have
questions, feel free to speak to any staff, elder or Care Connect
Team member.
